We were burglarized twice in our new studio in October and November, and must close to recover. We hope to reopen as soon as possible though. The police have our reports, so if anyone has any information that might help them out, or saw anything unusual at the Mellwood Arts Center over the last several weeks, please call police at 502-574-7111.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we must move to a temporary studio down the hall from the current location until our permanent space becomes available on August 1st. We will be closed between June 28th and July 5th, and reopen on a limited basis on Tuesday, July 6th, 2010.
The new space will be located on the second floor over in Building A, on the other side of the courtyard at the center. Further details will be posted soon.
Everything went wonderfully well last night at the studio’s first trolley hop event. Old friends stopped by, and lots of new faces wandered in happily to their parlor experience.
Several charcoal portraits were shown, including one of jockey Isaac Murphy. Plus, we were honored to display seven fascinating paintings from Boxing Kangaroo Studios…
The sweet Oliver wine served was enjoyed by many, but the ice cold bottled water that I gave away was greatly appreciated, as it was a bit warm and humid outside.
The small Acer provided surprisingly rich background music featuring The John Lennon Collection, The Doors Greatest Hits, and Abney Park’s Æther Shanties…
We took the trolley home at the end of the evening, and it was magical. You must experience it…
Carpet is down, curtains are up, and the counter is in. The brass tacks detail looks pretty against the black paint on the walls. A lantern made of Victorian-print paper is now hung so that it can be seen through the glass doors down the hall in the next building.
Speaking of paper…
There is no climate control upstairs in the studio, so the humidity is becoming a serious issue. I noticed that a canvas and a portrait had a slight warp, and several of the cardboard boxes seemed a bit damp. I reported it to the manager, and she took lots of photos. I trust that she will have something done. I suggested a dehumidifier in the halls, and she seemed to agree.
If nothing else major happens, the studio will be open for a sneak peek on May 28th, the same night as the trolley hop…
Plus, Lonnie’s Fun Food Cafe is now hosting a Friday night cocktail hour every Friday night 5-7pm. He will have drink and food specials, so stop by the courtyard at Mellwood if you’ll be visiting us at Number Nine Design that night.
